DeepMind scholarships at Makerere University

DeepMind will make a donation to Makerere University to fund the establishment of four scholarships in the field of Machine Learning beginning in the academic year 2021/2022.

The scholarships will support students who wish to study MSc. Computer Science programme (Track: AI and Data Science) taught in the Department of Computer Science at Makerere University beginning in the academic year 2021/22.

The scholarships will be open to students from Uganda, other East African countries, or International students from a Sub-Saharan African country.

The scholarship package will include full financial support for tuition, stipend, equipment, AI conference participation and mentorship. International students will also be eligible for a relocation grant to move to Makerere to begin their studies. Read more about the scholarship press release

Which programmes are eligible?

MSc in Computer Science (Track: AI and Data Science). Students must first secure admission to the MSc Computer Science programme at Makerere University before applying for the scholarship. See the call for graduate admissions for 2021/2022. The deadline for graduate application is May 28th, 2021.

What does the scholarship cover?

  • Full payment of tuition fees
  • Stipend to cater for living expenses
  • Equipment (laptop)
  • Medical insurance cover
  • Travel to Makerere University for international students
  • AI conference participation and mentorship

How many scholarships are available?

Four (4) DeepMind scholarships are available for the 2021/22 academic year. The scholarships will be open to students from Uganda, other East African countries, or International students from a Sub-Saharan African country

The scholarships are open to students who are citizens of Uganda, other East African countries, or International students from a Sub-Saharan African country.

Applying for the scholarship

To apply for the DeepMind scholarship, you must hold admission to the MSc Computer Science programme of Makerere University. Therefore you must have applied for admission before applying for the scholarship. The deadline for graduate application is May 28th, 2021.

To apply for the scholarship please complete the online application form . The deadline for submitting a scholarship application is June 30, 2021 11:00PM (East African Time). You will be required to provide proof of admission or application.
