Combinatorial graph routing & incentive mechanisms for mobile air quality sensors

Brief experience about the fellowship

The Makerere<>UW PhD exchange program has opened up more opportunities to access academic resources and bigger communities of practice in the fields of algorithms. This has highlighted more avenues for collaboration on future challenges that are pertinent to the global south and emerging economies. At UW I am privileged to be working with Kurtis Heimerl and Anna Karlin and have benefited from the bigger research groups and the in-depth graduate seminars. These research communities have also helped integrate into social life and culture.

Brief experience about the fellowship

When I arrived at the University of Washington as an exchange program student in the winter quarter of 2022, I had no idea how much my time here would influence the course of my Ph.D. research. It is now evident that coming to the Allen School was the best choice for me. I have loved every interaction with my advisor and colleagues, whose discussions and suggestions have opened up a lot of new directions for my research. I have had the privilege of accessing the vast pool of resources at the university and this has opened up a whole new world of possibilities for my research. I have met people from all kinds of cultures and backgrounds, who have broadened my perception of life. This is surely a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity that I am grateful to be a part of.

Technical Support for Software Systems with a bias to mobile Health Software Implementations among non-technical users

Brief experience about the fellowship

I arrived in December 2021 as a University of Washington exchange program student and my first experience was the snow and then diversity in culture but the people were very hospitable and I adjusted well. I have visited various places in Seattle including Amazon and its all beautiful. My Advisors are very helpful and have advised me on classes to attend and exposed me to similar interventions to my topic i.e Tellina User study and Daikon tool. They have also guided me to design the research and develop the interview tool for the research. There is a lot to learn from Paper presentations and the different PhD students interventions that enrich your knowledge. It has been a great experience so far and I am forever grateful for this opportunity.
